Installing and playing Myst game from original CD
If you have the original Myst CD, installing and playing Myst on 64 bits Windows 10 will be a lost cause. Myst has a 16 bits installer and won't install on a 64 bits system. Compatibility mode doesn't work. However, we've managed to install the game in both Windows 7 XP Mode and VirtualBox (with guest additions installed). When starting Myst, it rendered an error: Myst requires a 256-color palettized display driver. We haven't found a way to fix that; the emulated video cards of both VirtualBox and XP Mode apparently aren't recognized by the Myst program. You may have more luck with the Myst Masterpiece Edition which was released in 2000.

You can also save yourself a lot of trouble and download a copy of Myst now. Copy protection is removed, it has a modern installer and when installed, it runs fine on 64 bits Windows 10. Awesome!
Myst Remake
And did you hear about that remake of Myst? It's said that this version will support VR headsets. The puzzles will also be randomized, to enhance the replay value of the game a lot. Myst will of course also have a major graphical update. As you can see in the screenshot, it promises to look fantastically detailed. It's unsure when this great looking version of the classic CD-ROM game is released, but you might as well check if you can download and play it!

Today’s release of Myst III: Exile and Myst IV: Revelation completes the 7-game Myst Collection in digital format. We hope you enjoy Myst III whether you are a first-time player or a returning player who is feeling a little nostalgic.
We have been working to ready all of the games in the Myst series for the 25th Anniversary of Myst. Most of the games in the series required compatibility updates and Myst III, like Myst and Riven, needed a little more than that to run reliably on modern day computers. So, we partnered up with the ResidualVM team and have worked closely with them to bring you this digital release version of Myst III: Exile.

Release Notes:
Myst III: Exile is available in 6 languages: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Dutch. Select the language option of your choice from the menu that appears when you launch the game.
Windows 10 compatibility update.
Please make sure your anti-virus program is not blocking the game from launching. You may need to modify the settings in your anti-virus program to unblock the files “residualvm.exe” and “M3.”

Known Issues:
Display settings will need to be set at 100% (default) in order to avoid the game appearing in an offset position on your display. This can be adjusted in the Scale and Layout section of the Display settings menu in Windows 10.
The cursor size stays the same when switching from windowed to fullscreen.

If the player skips a movie where Saavedro attacks the player, any movies played afterward in this instance of the game are skipped as well.
When standing in each of the rings in the Resonance Ring puzzle on Amateria you get a generic shaking of the screen. In the original version of Myst 3, each selected resonance would change the intensity of the shaking in sync with the actual resonance sound. This will be fixed in a later update.
